Krishna River Water Shortage Threatens Kharif Operations

This year, water release for kharif operations in the Krishna Delta may be delayed due to low storage levels at Pulichintala and Prakasam Barrage. Typically, water is released in early June for nursery activities, but current water levels are insufficient for irrigation.

Officials are considering diverting Godavari water via the Pattiseema project to supplement Krishna’s supply. With the Godavari’s water level at 13.7 meters, it needs to reach 14 meters for successful water lifting, expected within a week. The Krishna Delta requires 13,000 cusecs of water to irrigate over 13 lakh acres across Krishna, West Godavari, Guntur, and Prakasam districts.
