Kolkata Police has issued summons to 12 BJP MLAs for questioning in connection with complaints filed against them for allegedly disrespecting the National Anthem within the state Assembly premises. The MLAs have been asked to appear at the city police headquarters on December 4. While it remains unclear whether the BJP leaders will comply with the notice, one legislator, Shankar Ghosh, called it a deliberate attempt by the ruling Trinamool Congress in collusion with the city police.
The Trinamool Congress hinted at bringing a motion during the ongoing winter session of the Assembly to condemn the alleged insult of the National Anthem by the BJP legislators. An FIR had been filed against the 12 BJP legislators following a complaint by three Trinamool Congress legislators, accusing them of shouting “thieves, thieves” slogans during the National Anthem.
