In response to a series of suicides and attempted suicides at various stations, Kolkata Metro Rail authorities have announced plans to install automatic platform screen doors at all stations. These doors will automatically open when a train arrives and halt, closing only after passenger entry and exit is completed.
The move aims to prevent suicide attempts by making the rail tracks inaccessible to passengers at all times. This initiative, which has already been successfully implemented on the East-West Metro route, is set to be extended across the entire Kolkata Metro network, mitigating delays caused by such incidents and enhancing passenger safety.
