In Kolkata, a man, identified as Suryakanta De, was apprehended on Thursday for the alleged murder of his wife and attempting to eliminate evidence by burning her body, as reported by the city police. The arrest came after the post-mortem examination of Dipti Shukla’s remains revealed that burn injuries were not the cause of her death but rather a head injury inflicted by a heavy weapon.
The charred body was discovered at her residence in Bowbazar, and initially, De claimed that she had taken her own life by setting herself on fire. However, during subsequent police interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime, admitting that he had killed her before attempting to conceal the evidence by burning her body. De is set to appear in a lower court where the public prosecutor will seek his police custody.
