Kim Jong-un Criticizes Officials Over Typhoon Damage in North Korea
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has criticized local officials for their “irresponsible” and “insensitive” handling of the aftermath of Typhoon Khanun, which recently caused significant damage in the Korean Peninsula. During his visit to Anbyon County in Kangwon province, where heavy rains from the typhoon led to riverbank collapses and flooding of farmland, Kim berated agricultural guidance organs and party organizations for their inadequate response.
He emphasized that the region’s damage was worsened due to officials’ lack of sensitivity and insufficient measures. Kim urged officials to enhance the government’s disaster response efforts. The typhoon prompted North Korea to issue warnings and news alerts to minimize potential damage, reflecting concerns about the nation’s vulnerability to natural disasters due to limited infrastructure.
