The country’s first all-women police station in Kozhikode, Kerala, has marked 10 days of continuous service. Inaugurated by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1973, the police station has played a pivotal role in handling cases related to domestic issues, with women freely coming forward to seek help. The first case registered at the station was a missing boy who had come to witness the station’s inauguration, and he has since become a Family Court judge.
The station’s first Sub Inspector, M. Padminiamma, who received a pen from Indira Gandhi to sign the station’s register, now leads a peaceful life in the state capital. The current Sub Inspector, K.K. Tulasi, expressed satisfaction with the attention the station has been receiving during the 10-day celebration.
