In response to a perceived increase in goonda attacks, the Kochi City police and the Ernakulam Rural police have intensified their action against anti-social elements as part of Operation AAG (Action Against Goons) in Kerala. The operation, ordered by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M.R. Ajithkumar, is in its sixth phase and focuses on preventing goonda activities, especially in the wake of rising cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Both police units are also implementing Operation Clean, a strategic campaign aimed at identifying and neutralising major threats and players associated with organised crime, focusing particularly on arresting wanted criminals and preventing the revival of criminal activities by history-sheeters. Additionally, the police are invoking the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA) to curb organised crime effectively.
