Kerala High Court Appoints Amicus Curiae in Adoption Dispute
The Kerala High Court has appointed advocate Parvathy Menon as an amicus curiae to assist in deciding the plea of Malayalee adoptive parents seeking annulment of their 2017 adoption of a Punjabi teenager. The adoptive parents cite difficulties in adjusting with the adopted daughter, who recently turned 18.
The court was informed that the teenager is currently residing in a women’s home after being allegedly “abandoned” by her adoptive parents. The girl expresses a desire to return to Punjab, her place of origin.
The court, grappling with the complexities of ensuring her safety and protection, has raised concerns about ordering her return outside its territorial jurisdiction, highlighting broader issues related to her future well-being, career, and potential marriage. The case is scheduled for further proceedings on Monday.
