Kerala Health Department Issues Heatstroke Prevention Advisory

The Kerala Health Department has issued an advisory to prevent heatstroke and dehydration as the state experiences excessive heat. Health Minister Veena George chaired a high-level meeting to review the heatwave situation across various districts in Kerala. The public has been advised to avoid going out in the sun between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and increase fluid intake, especially for vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with chronic diseases. Work timings for outdoor workers should be rearranged to avoid peak sun exposure, and breaks should be taken in shaded areas.

Symptoms of heat-related illnesses such as fatigue, headache, nausea, increased heartbeat, and disorientation should not be ignored, and medical advice should be sought if experienced. Additionally, people are encouraged to wear light, loose clothing, increase fluid intake with drinks like lime juice or buttermilk, and include fruits high in water content in their diet to stay hydrated and prevent heat-related health issues.
