Kerala Government’s Commitment to Differently Abled Empowerment
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan reaffirmed Kerala’s dedication to the comprehensive development of the differently abled community, emphasizing the integration of various approaches to strengthen disability prevention, early detection, and rehabilitation. Ensuring a level playing field for differently abled individuals is a top priority, with initiatives ranging from infrastructure development to education and employment inclusion.
The Barrier-free Kerala project aims to make government buildings and public spaces disabled-friendly, with significant progress already made. Additionally, efforts are underway to enhance digital accessibility and provide reservations in appointments and promotions for differently-abled persons. The government is actively addressing the need for special anganwadis, schools, and rehabilitation centers, alongside vocational training and skill development programs.
Plans for integrated rehabilitation villages and a sports academy signify Kerala’s holistic approach to empowering the differently-abled community. Through policy amendments and collaborative efforts, the government is committed to meeting contemporary requirements and ensuring the welfare and empowerment of all individuals with disabilities in the state.
