Under the leadership of Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran, Kerala’s Forest Department has successfully rejuvenated approximately 1,500 waterbodies across forest areas. These efforts aim to minimize wildlife incursions into human habitations and mitigate human-wildlife conflicts in the state. With over 75% of ponds and swamps revitalized, covering an extensive area of forest land, the department ensures sufficient water availability, particularly crucial amidst anticipated severe drought conditions.
Supported by a project worth ₹45 lakh sourced through corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds, these initiatives include cleaning check-dams, establishing Brushwood check-dams, and desilting operations, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to environmental conservation and wildlife management.
