Kerala Bar Council Initiates Probe into Unruly Incident at Kottayam Magistrate Court
The Kerala Bar Council has formed a commission to investigate the tumultuous events that transpired at a magistrate court in Kottayam, where lawyers staged a protest and shouted slogans against a woman magistrate. The incident unfolded after lawyers protested and chanted provocative slogans against Chief Judicial Magistrate Viveeja Sethumohan following the filing of an FIR against one of their colleagues.
Responding to the situation, the Kerala High Court expressed displeasure, with Justice Devan Ramachandran questioning the bar’s selective interference in “unnecessary matters.” He emphasized the potential impact of such incidents on the public perception of the legal community and urged the bar to consider the broader implications of its actions.
The Bar Council’s commission has been tasked with conducting a thorough probe and is expected to submit its findings within a week.
