Karnataka’s Unfulfilled AIIMS Aspirations Spark Legislative Council Clash

In the Karnataka Legislative Council, heated exchanges erupted between Congress, BJP, and JD(S) members over the non-allotment of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to the state. JD(S) member K.A. Thippeswamy criticized the government’s efforts, while Congress members from the Kalyan Karnataka region defended their actions.

Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil highlighted that Karnataka and Kerala are the only states without AIIMS, despite Karnataka offering land in Raichur and assurances of water and electricity supply. The lack of a detailed report and infrastructure commitment was cited as a potential issue.
