In response to concerns from anganwadi workers, the Karnataka government will establish an expert committee to determine the provision of pre-primary education at anganwadis statewide, excluding the Kalyana Karnataka region. This decision, announced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar, alleviates fears of potential closures of anganwadis if pre-primary classes were mandated in government schools.
The government affirmed that pre-primary classes would only expand in 2,786 approved schools, ensuring job security for anganwadi workers. Additionally, qualified anganwadi workers will be trained as pre-primary teachers, and anganwadis will be upgraded to offer education in Kannada and English, along with uniforms, books, and nutritious food for children.
