Karnataka to Challenge Cauvery Water Release Order
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced that the state government will challenge the recent order by the Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee (CWRC) to release water to Tamil Nadu in the Supreme Court. Protests have erupted in Bengaluru and the Cauvery catchment area following the order. Siddaramaiah emphasized that there is no water storage available in the state and that the government would seek legal experts’ advice.
The CWRC has directed Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs of water daily until October 15, sparking controversy and political wrangling. Siddaramaiah also dismissed the supposed “Chamarajanagar curse,” where past chief ministers visiting the district lost power, stating that he had debunked the myth through his multiple visits to the area.
