Karnataka Police Inspector Suspended Over Alleged Misuse of Recovered Money
The Karnataka Police Department has suspended Police Inspector Shankar Nayak from Bidadi police station following allegations of misusing Rs 75 lakh in recovered money from a theft case. IGP (Central Range) Ravikanthe Gowda issued the suspension order after an FIR was filed against Inspector Shankar at the Byatarayanapura police station in Bengaluru.
The accused had obtained a stay order from the court after the FIR was filed. The allegations stem from Shankar’s tenure as an inspector at Byatarayanapura police station in 2022, leading to a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and relevant IPC sections. The Central Crime Branch (CCB) took over the case, and a departmental inquiry resulted in the suspension order, confirming the allegations against the inspector. The arrest of middleman Lokanath in connection with the case has also been reported, and the matter was discussed in the state assembly session.
