Karnataka Lokayukta Summons Officials in Water Contamination Case
The Karnataka Lokayukta, Justice B.S. Patil, has summoned key government officials for August 24th in relation to the water contamination case that has resulted in six deaths and over 180 hospitalizations in Kavadigarahatti, Chitradurga city. Justice Patil expressed deep concern over the tragic incident and initiated a suo moto case, seeking a comprehensive report.
Officials summoned include the Secretary of the Department of Urban Development, the District Commissioner of Chitradurga, the Administrative Director of Chitradurga Municipality, the District Health Officer, the Municipality Commissioner, the Assistant Executive Engineer, and Health Inspectors. The summoned officials have been instructed to provide a detailed account of the case along with a report to the Lokayukta’s office.
The number of fatalities in the water contamination case, which emerged on July 31, has recently increased, while the count of hospitalized individuals rose from 149 to 185. The incident has left many in critical condition, and the latest victim is an unborn child belonging to 22-year-old Usha, who was in the area for her delivery.
