In an effort to combat the rising dengue cases in Karnataka, particularly Bengaluru, the state government has unveiled a disease surveillance dashboard and mobile application. State Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao inaugurated the surveillance dashboard at the ARTPARK office within the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
Developed in collaboration with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka, and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the surveillance system aims to employ predictive analytics to assist policymakers and public health officials in outbreak preparation and control. The dashboard will provide outbreak maps at district and sub-district levels, case trends over the years, and a four-week predictive risk map.
Mobile apps will be used to capture real-time data from on-ground surveys. While initially focusing on dengue, the system plans to expand to cover additional diseases in the future. This initiative follows the success of technology-based solutions in disease management during the COVID-19 pandemic.
