The Karnataka High Court’s division bench has temporarily prohibited horse racing and betting at Bangalore Turf Club (BTC), staying a single judge’s June 18 order that had allowed these activities.
This ruling, passed on June 22, followed the State government’s appeal against the single judge’s decision, citing ongoing investigations into alleged illegalities involving bookmakers. The BTC argued that it was not implicated in these criminal proceedings and that the government’s refusal to grant permission was an attempt to pressure the club to relocate. The prohibition will remain until the final adjudication of BTC’s petition.
