Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Opposes Cauvery Water Release to Tamil Nadu
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written a letter to Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekawat, expressing his opposition to releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. Siddaramaiah stated that it is not feasible to implement the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee’s (CWRC) order to release 5,000 cusecs of water for 15 days from the KRS and Kabini dams through Biligundlu.
He highlighted that Karnataka had already faced a water shortage due to a failed monsoon, and Tamil Nadu had utilized a significant amount of water, even though the state’s dams have low water levels. Siddaramaiah also mentioned that there are no predicted rains between September 12 and 24, making the situation more challenging.
The Karnataka government plans to file a petition with the CWRC and the Supreme Court to explain the state’s inability to release water to Tamil Nadu.
