Karnataka Bandh Remains Peaceful, Protests Led by Vatal Nagaraj
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar confirmed on Friday that the Karnataka bandh had been completely peaceful, with no untoward incidents reported. He commended the cooperation of the people and stressed that the state was safe despite the bandh. Regarding an upcoming meeting of the Cauvery Management Board, Shivakumar mentioned that a team had been sent to represent the state’s position, which is against releasing more water.
Protests led by Vatal Nagaraj and others took place in Bengaluru, with Nagaraj announcing a siege of the KRS Dam on October 5 as a demonstration of Kannada people’s strength and opposition to the central government’s stance on the Cauvery issue. Over 200 people were detained by the police for attempting to block the Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway in Mandya district as part of the bandh.
