Kapil Dev backs Adani Group’s push to make golf mainstream sport in India
Cricket legend Kapil Dev has praised the Adani Group for its efforts to make golf a mainstream sport in India. The group recently launched the Adani-PGTI Golf Training Academy at the Belvedere Golf & Country Club in Ahmedabad.
This academy is a collaboration between the Adani Group and the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), aiming to boost golf’s popularity in the country and create a new generation of global champions.
Along with the academy, the Adani Group also announced the launch of the ‘Adani Invitational Golf Championship 2025’. This marks the group’s entry into Indian professional golf. At the event, Kapil Dev expressed his support for the initiative. He praised the Adani Group for promoting golf and other sports, highlighting how crucial corporate support is for nurturing young talent. Kapil said, “We often focus too much on cricket, but I am happy to see that you are giving attention to other sports like golf. Every tournament helps boost the game.”
Kapil Dev also spoke about the importance of tournaments in growing the sport. He pointed out that they attract top talent and companies, which is essential for the sport’s growth. Drawing a comparison to cricket, he explained how academies shape future stars. “Just like we attend good schools and colleges to become top students, we need quality academies to create great golfers,” Kapil said.
The Adani-PGTI Golf Training Academy aims to provide world-class coaching and facilities to aspiring golfers. It will serve as a platform for them to develop their skills at a professional level. The initiative, based in Ahmedabad, hopes to make golf more accessible to young people across the country.
Kapil Dev also emphasized the need for more tournaments and grassroots events to encourage children to take up the sport. He believes that when children have more opportunities to compete, parents will be motivated to support them. “We need well-equipped practice grounds and tournaments for young players. That’s how we’ll build the future of the sport,” he said.
With this initiative, the Adani Group is making a significant effort to bring golf into the spotlight and create new opportunities for young Indian golfers.
