Jury Awards $148 Million in Damages to Georgia Election Workers Over Rudy Giuliani’s 2020 Vote Lies

A jury has granted $148 million in damages to two former Georgia election workers who sued Rudy Giuliani for defamation. The decision follows emotional testimony from Wandrea “Shaye” Moss and her mother, Ruby Freeman, who faced racist threats and harassment due to false conspiracy theories spread by Giuliani.

The damages include a $75 million award in punitive damages. Giuliani, who had already been found liable, vowed to appeal, stating that the “absurdity of the number merely underscores the absurdity of the entire proceeding.” The jury heard recordings of Giuliani falsely accusing the election workers and racist threats they received. The judgment adds to Giuliani’s legal challenges, including criminal charges related to efforts to subvert the 2020 election results in Georgia.
