Jharkhand HC Grants Temporary Relief to Rahul Gandhi in Defamation Case
The Jharkhand High Court has granted temporary relief to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi by staying the 2018 defamation case against him for one month. This decision comes after the Chaibasa court issued a non-bailable warrant against Mr. Gandhi for derogatory remarks made against former BJP chief Amit Shah in 2018. Despite Mr. Gandhi’s petition to appear through a pleader, the court-mandated his physical appearance on March 14.
However, Justice Rajesh Kumar of the High Court postponed the warrant for one month with a condition, directing Mr. Gandhi to take legal steps before facing trial. The defamation case, filed by a resident of Chaibasa, alleged that Mr. Gandhi’s remarks at a Congress convention in 2018 were defamatory towards Mr. Shah. This stay provides Mr. Gandhi with an opportunity to navigate the legal proceedings surrounding the case.
