Jaishankar Highlights Detrimental Impact of India-China Border Tensions

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has underscored the adverse effects of the nearly four-year border row between India and China in eastern Ladakh, stating that the prolonged tension has been detrimental to both nations. Emphasizing India’s commitment to a fair and respectful resolution, Jaishankar emphasized the importance of upholding agreements and recognizing the Line of Actual Control.

He reiterated India’s willingness to engage in dialogue with Pakistan but stressed that addressing terrorism must remain central to any discussions. Regarding the India-China relationship, Jaishankar expressed the mutual interest in reducing military presence along the Line of Actual Control and adhering to signed agreements.

Despite recent military talks, no breakthrough has been achieved in resolving the border standoff. Additionally, Jaishankar addressed India’s approach to Russia and the U.S., denying any direct correlation between India’s policies and the evolving relationship between Russia and China. He also expressed concerns over the situation in Myanmar, highlighting the risks associated with the absence of a central authority and the potential for illegal activities to proliferate.
