Israel Allocates $246 Million for Road Rehabilitation Near Lebanese Border
The Israeli government has committed $246 million for the rehabilitation of northern roads along the Lebanese border due to significant damage caused by increased military activity amidst ongoing conflicts with Hezbollah. The Ministry of Transport and Road Safety announced that these roads suffered substantial harm from the passage of heavy Israeli military vehicles, including tanks and armored personnel carriers.
Minister of Transport Miri Regev stressed the importance of maintaining infrastructure in good condition, prioritizing human safety. She has directed the National Transport Infrastructure Company to develop a plan for road restoration within the allocated budget. If necessary, additional funds may be allocated for the repair of these damaged roads.
The recent escalation on the Lebanese-Israeli border, triggered by Hezbollah’s rocket attacks in support of Hamas, has led to heightened tensions and raised concerns over displacement, with over 19,000 people displaced in Lebanon, a number expected to rise if violence continues to escalate, as reported by the International Organization for Migration.
