Iraqi Militia Claims Responsibility for Attacks on US Bases in Iraq and Syria

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an Iraqi Shia militia, has asserted responsibility for recent attacks on US military bases in Iraq and Syria. The militia announced in an online statement that its fighters deployed a bomb-laden drone targeting a base near Erbil Airport in the Kurdistan Region. The regional Counter-Terrorism Service confirmed the attack, reporting the interception of a booby-trapped drone near Erbil.

The same militia also claimed responsibility for drone and rocket assaults on four US military bases in Syria, citing these actions as retaliatory measures against US forces amid the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, these recent attacks bring the total recorded assaults on US bases in Syria to 71 since October 19, 2023.
