Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation President, Mohammad Eslami, has emphasized the country’s commitment to “peaceful” nuclear activities despite unilateral sanctions. Speaking at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference in Vienna, Eslami stated that Iran would continue its peaceful development of nuclear research reactors, accelerators, and irradiation systems.
He also reiterated Iran’s commitment to increasing nuclear electricity generation to 20,000 megawatts per year by 2040. Eslami highlighted Iran’s adherence to its obligations under safeguards agreements and the Non-Proliferation Treaty. He called on the IAEA to maintain neutrality and professionalism in its verification reports on Iran’s nuclear activities and urged the resolution of differences between the two sides.
Talks to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) have been ongoing, with no significant breakthroughs reported since August 2022.
