Iran Vows Response to Strike on Syrian Consulate Attributed to Israel
Following the demolition of Iran’s consulate in Damascus and the killing of seven individuals, including two Iranian generals, Iran and its proxies have pledged retaliation against Israel. Iran’s Supreme National Security Council convened to decide on an appropriate response to the strike, chaired by President Ebrahim Raisi.
While it remains unclear whether Iran will directly engage or continue relying on proxies like Hezbollah and the Houthis, tensions between Iran and Israel have escalated significantly. Hezbollah, attributing a crucial role to one of the slain generals in Lebanon, vowed punishment and revenge against the perpetrators. Meanwhile, Iran holds the United States, Israel’s ally, responsible for the strike and conveyed a message through Switzerland to the U.N. Security Council, demanding action against Israel.
