Chennai Mayor R. Priya inaugurated an intensive mosquito control drive in all 15 zones of the city as part of efforts to combat rising mosquito density. The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) initiated door-to-door source reduction activities, deploying 362 compression sprayers, 69 power sprayers, 202 knapsack battery sprayers, 238 hand-operated fogging machines, and 65 vehicle-mounted fogging machines.
The campaign includes clearing stormwater drains with stagnant water and advising residents to eliminate mosquito breeding sources in their homes. GCC Commissioner J. Radhakrishnan noted that all communicable diseases are currently under control, with the situation closely monitored. Medical camps have also been set up, addressing various health concerns, and the GCC is actively engaging with the community to ensure effective mosquito control measures.
