Intensified Mosquito Control Drive in Chennai After Child’s Dengue Death
Following the tragic death of a child due to dengue, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has ramped up its mosquito control efforts. GCC Commissioner J. Radhakrishnan, along with officials, visited the child’s home in Maduravoyal and instructed them to identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sources in the area.
The child’s death occurred in Zone 11, Division 144, specifically on Pillaiyar Koil Street. The GCC has also increased its information, education, and communication (IEC) activities across all city zones to raise awareness about vector-borne diseases. Approximately 20 dengue cases have been reported this month in Chennai.
Local authorities are advising residents to take preventive measures, especially in the affected ward 144. Measures include using bleaching powder, conducting source reduction, and ensuring chlorination of drinking water.
