INS Sumitra Rescues Crew from Second Hijacked Fishing Vessel in 36 Hours
Indian Navy’s offshore patrol vessel, INS Sumitra, successfully rescued the crew of the Iranian-flagged Fishing Vessel Al Naeemi, thwarting a hijack attempt by 11 Somali pirates off the East Coast of Somalia. This incident marks the second successful intervention by INS Sumitra within 36 hours.
The naval vessel responded swiftly to a distress call and intercepted the fishing vessel, deploying its helicopter and boats to secure the safe release of the 19 Pakistani crew members. This rescue operation follows another hijack attempt on an Iranian fishing vessel, Iman, where INS Sumitra also prevented the piracy incident, demonstrating its persistent efforts in combating piracy in the Gulf of Aden.
