‘Innuyir Kappom’ Scheme Benefits Over Two Lakh People, Expenditure at ₹173.77 Crore
The ‘Innuyir Kappom-Nammai Kaakkum 48’ initiative by the Tamil Nadu State government has successfully aided over two lakh individuals, with expenditures totaling ₹173.77 crore, according to Health Minister Ma. Subramanian. Launched in December 2021, the scheme focuses on providing financial assistance, up to ₹1 lakh, for the initial 48 hours of treatment in 692 empanelled hospitals (237 private and 455 government facilities) to those injured in road accidents.
Minister Subramanian personally met the 2,00,000th beneficiary, a 21-year-old college student recovering from a road accident in a private hospital under the scheme. Additionally, the Minister announced upcoming enrollment camps for the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme in 100 Assembly constituencies on December 2, facilitating registration and card issuance.
Responding to a recent death in Tiruvarur Government Medical College Hospital, the Minister clarified that the patient had critical respiratory and cardiac conditions, with power outages affecting ventilatory support for five minutes, resulting in one fatality. Of the five patients on ventilators, four are reportedly recovering well. Health Secretary Gagandeep Singh Bedi and other officials were present during the announcement.
