Madhavaram, once a tranquil suburb, is now grappling with significant infrastructure challenges as it undergoes rapid urbanization. Despite merging with the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) a decade ago, many areas still lack essential amenities like stormwater drains and a comprehensive water supply network, leading to fears of recurring floods. The ongoing Metro Rail project has increased migration but also intensified traffic congestion.
Overhead power cables pose safety risks, and the demand for better traffic management and other truck terminals is rising. While some projects like the ₹946.13-crore stormwater drain and new parks are progressing, residents continue to await water supply and sewer system improvements. The local MLA has highlighted these issues in the Assembly, seeking further development initiatives to match the suburb’s growth.
