Indonesia Establishes Tourism Fund for Sustainable Development
The Indonesian government is in the process of creating a tourism fund to support the country’s efforts in developing sustainable tourism and attracting more visitors. Minister for Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno stated that the fund, set to be launched in early 2024, will initially manage 2 trillion rupiahs ($129 million).
The fund aims to support the promotion of tourism events, enhance Indonesia’s global tourism branding, and boost economic impacts through various activities. Indonesia is hosting several international events in 2024, contributing to the post-Covid recovery of the tourism sector. In the first ten months of the year, Indonesia recorded 9.49 million tourist arrivals, surpassing the initial government target of 7.4 million.
