India’s first cooperative society in Tirur can be restored

The historic building of India’s first cooperative society in Tirur, Tiruvallur district, is set to be restored. The society, established on August 22, 1904, for the benefit of farmers, will see the preservation of its original single-room stone structure.

The Registrar of Cooperative Societies, N. Subbaiyan, has confirmed the conservation plans. The building, with its wooden rafters and Mangalore tiles, holds historical significance as a symbol of the cooperative movement’s early beginnings.

The restoration project aims to honor the cooperative society’s heritage and the contributions it made to empowering farmers. The efforts will ensure the preservation of the building’s architectural and cultural value, highlighting the importance of the cooperative movement in India.
