India’s External Affairs Minister (EAM), S. Jaishankar, has expressed optimism for a reconciliation process in Sri Lanka that addresses the aspirations of the Tamil community. Speaking to the India-Sri Lanka Parliamentary Friendship Association via video message, Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s support for preserving Sri Lanka’s multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, and multi-religious identity.
He emphasized the need for a reconciliation process that respects the desires of the Tamil community for equality, justice, and self-respect within a united and prosperous Sri Lanka. The EAM highlighted India’s positive contributions to Sri Lanka’s development and stability, noting the significant financial assistance of nearly $4 billion extended by India over the past year.
Jaishankar underlined India’s commitment to fostering long-term solutions through collaborative efforts in areas such as energy connectivity, trade, investment, and regional security.
