Indian-Origin Paediatrician Raises Concerns About Delay in Catching Nurse Convicted of Murdering Babies
An Indian-origin pediatrician in England, Dr. Ravi Jayaram, has expressed regret that faster action could have saved infants from being murdered by nurse Lucy Letby. Letby, convicted of killing seven babies under her care, faced 22 charges of murder and attempted murder at the Manchester Crown Court.
Dr. Jayaram, a consultant at the Countess of Chester Hospital, had repeatedly raised alarms about Letby for months prior to her conviction. He believes that about four or five babies could have survived had the hospital acted sooner on the concerns raised by him and his colleagues.
Dr. Jayaram and fellow doctor Stephen Brearey played an instrumental role in catching Letby. The nurse used various methods to attack babies, including injecting air and insulin into their bloodstream and force-feeding an overdose of milk or fluids. Letby will be sentenced on August 21.
