Indian Foreign Secretary Meets Bhutan King Wangchuck to Strengthen Ties
On January 30, Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra met with Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck during his three-day visit to Bhutan. The visit aims to strengthen the longstanding and unique ties of friendship between India and Bhutan. The Foreign Secretary also held discussions with Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, covering various areas of mutual interest and cooperation, including development partnership, space, energy, trade, technology, and people-to-people ties.
This visit marks the first high-level engagement between the two nations since the formation of the new government in Bhutan under the People’s Democratic Party leader. The discussions also come at a time when Bhutan and China are working to resolve their longstanding boundary dispute, with potential implications for India’s security interests.
