India Urgently Coordinates Assistance and Repatriation Efforts in Wake of Kuwait Fire Tragedy

Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh has swiftly arrived in Kuwait to oversee the assistance and coordinate with local authorities for the early repatriation of around 40 Indian nationals who tragically lost their lives in a devastating fire in Mangaf. The fire, which occurred in a labour housing facility, claimed the lives of at least 49 foreign workers and left over 50 injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, deeply saddened by the incident, has directed the provision of ₹2 lakh ex-gratia relief to the families of the deceased from the PM Relief Fund.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has been actively engaging with Kuwaiti authorities to expedite the repatriation process and ensure proper medical care for the injured. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait, led by Ambassador Adarsh Swaika, has been diligently coordinating with local authorities and hospitals to assist the affected Indian nationals and provide necessary support. Meanwhile, Kuwaiti authorities have initiated investigations into the cause of the fire, focusing on safety violations and the use of inflammable materials in the building, underscoring the gravity of the incident and the urgent need for enhanced safety measures in migrant worker accommodations.
