India to Establish Embassy in Timor-Leste to Strengthen ASEAN Ties

During a day-long visit to Indonesia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the establishment of an Indian Embassy in Dili, Timor-Leste, underscoring India’s commitment to ASEAN and its relations with the Southeast Asian nation. This decision was warmly welcomed by Timor-Leste and ASEAN members.

Timor-Leste recently joined ASEAN as an Observer before becoming a full member in 2022. Prime Minister Modi made this announcement during the ASEAN-India Summit in Jakarta, where he emphasized the centrality of ASEAN in India’s Act East Policy. The Prime Minister also attended the 18th East Asia Summit during his visit.
