India Seeks Early Discharge of Indian ‘Army Helpers’ in Russia
India has reached out to Russian authorities to facilitate the early discharge of Indian nationals serving as support staff with the Russian Army, amid concerns over their involvement in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) urged Indian citizens to exercise caution and refrain from participating in the conflict, following reports that at least three Indians working as security helpers were compelled to fight alongside Russian forces at the Ukraine border.
The issue, brought to light by AIMIM Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi, prompted diplomatic intervention, with efforts underway to ensure the safe return of Indian nationals. Despite previous instances of Indians volunteering for combat roles in Ukraine, their involvement with the Russian Army marks a significant development in the conflict’s dynamics, raising concerns about their safety and well-being.
