India Launches Operation ‘Indravati’ to Evacuate Nationals from Haiti Amid Security Concerns

In response to the deteriorating security situation in Haiti, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced the commencement of Operation Indravati to evacuate Indian nationals to the Dominican Republic. The operation began after India expressed its intent to evacuate up to 90 nationals from Haiti due to escalating violence and unrest. Acknowledging the support of the Dominican Republic government, Jaishankar highlighted India’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad.

The decision comes amidst coordinated attacks by various gangs targeting critical installations in Haiti, aiming to oust Prime Minister Ariel Henry. With India lacking an embassy in Haiti, the Indian mission in Santo Domingo is closely monitoring the situation. Around 60 Indians have registered with Indian authorities for repatriation, emphasizing India’s readiness to evacuate all nationals if necessary.
