India Investigates Alleged Involvement in Pannun Assassination Plot, Says Jaishankar
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reiterated India’s commitment to investigating the alleged involvement of a government official in the assassination plot targeting Khalistani extremist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, emphasizing the nation’s own national security interests in the matter. Responding to queries regarding US Ambassador Eric Garcetti’s remarks, Jaishankar stated that while the investigation is ongoing, India’s stance remains focused on ensuring its security concerns are addressed.
Garcetti had previously emphasized that no government employee from any country should be involved in plotting against a foreign citizen, citing sovereignty and rights issues. The minister highlighted Pannun’s status as an India-designated terrorist holding American and Canadian citizenship, underscoring his threats against India in the past. Jaishankar reiterated that India would provide updates on the investigation when appropriate, maintaining confidentiality until then.
