India Expresses Support for Palestine’s U.N. Membership Bid

India has reiterated its support for Palestine’s bid to become a full member of the United Nations. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, expressed hope that Palestine’s application for U.N. membership would be reconsidered and endorsed. India has a long-standing relationship with Palestine, being one of the first non-Arab states to recognize the Palestine Liberation Organization in 1974 and the State of Palestine in 1988.

While Palestine currently holds the status of a “non-member observer state” at the UN, India has emphasized the need for a two-state solution achieved through direct negotiations between Israel and Palestine. India condemns the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, stressing the need for immediate humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza to avert further deterioration of the situation.
