India has condemned The Washington Post report that named an Indian official in connection with an alleged plot to assassinate Sikh separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. The External Affairs Ministry stated that the report made “unwarranted and unsubstantiated” imputations on a serious matter.
The ministry spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, highlighted that there is an ongoing investigation by a high-level committee set up by the Indian government to address security concerns raised by the US government. Jaiswal emphasized that speculative and irresponsible comments on the matter are not helpful. In November last year, US federal prosecutors charged an Indian national, Nikhil Gupta, with involvement in the foiled plot to kill Pannun on American soil, implicating a government employee.
