India Condemns Israeli Bombing in Rafah, Calls for Respect of Humanitarian Law
India expressed deep concern over the tragic loss of civilian lives in the recent Israeli bombing of displacement camps in Rafah, Palestine. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized India’s recognition of the Palestinian state since the late 1980s and reiterated India’s call for the protection of civilian populations and adherence to international humanitarian law in the ongoing conflict. The bombing in Rafah intensified global outrage against the Israeli campaign in Gaza, which has resulted in significant casualties.
Concurrently, Spain, Ireland, and Norway extended recognition to the Palestinian state, further emphasizing the urgency of addressing the Israel-Palestinian crisis. India reaffirmed its support for a two-state solution to the conflict, advocating for the establishment of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state alongside Israel. Moreover, India took note of former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s acknowledgment of Pakistani missteps in violating the 1999 Lahore pact, highlighting the complexities of India-Pakistan relations amidst historical tensions and conflicts.
