Incoming Palestinian PM’s Reform Plans and Obstacles

Mohammad Mustafa, the incoming Palestinian Prime Minister, outlined plans for reform, including the appointment of a technocratic government and the establishment of a trust fund for Gaza’s reconstruction. However, significant obstacles remain, as the Palestinian Authority lacks authority in Gaza, controlled by Hamas since 2007.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu opposes the return of the Palestinian Authority to Gaza and rejects Palestinian statehood. Mustafa aims to create a non-partisan government, implement institutional reforms, and adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. He also seeks to reunify the territories and establish an agency for Gaza’s recovery. However, there’s no mention of Hamas in his vision statement, and Palestinian elections face uncertainty due to Israeli restrictions and internal political dynamics.
