On Halmahera Island in Indonesia’s North Maluku province, the Ibu volcano erupted, spewing ash up to 1,200 meters above its peak for about 90 seconds. The eruption, observed by the country’s Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), marked the 60th eruption of the volcano in the current year.
Classified at the second-highest danger level, Ibu volcano stands at around 1,300 meters above sea level. Residents are cautioned to stay at least 3.5 km away from the crater, and those engaging in outdoor activities are advised to use protective gear against falling volcanic ash. Indonesia, part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, hosts numerous volcanoes, making it prone to volcanic activities.
