Humanitarian Crisis Deepens in Gaza, WHO Warns of Grave Peril
The Chief of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has issued a stark warning about the dire situation in Gaza, emphasizing acute hunger and desperation in the war-torn Palestinian territory. Reports indicate that out of 36 hospitals in Gaza, only 15 are functioning with limited capacity, severely hampering medical services. The WHO delivered supplies to two hospitals, but the organization’s ability to provide essential medicines, medical supplies, and fuel is increasingly constrained by the desperate conditions on the ground.
Hungry civilians, hoping for food, have reportedly halted WHO convoys, further complicating relief efforts. Tedros urged the international community to take urgent action to address the perilous situation, emphasizing that the safety of staff and the continuity of operations depend on immediate assistance. Despite a recent United Nations Security Council resolution advocating for the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, there remains no immediate call for an end to the ongoing conflict, leaving the population of Gaza in a precarious state.
